When I was a pre-teen, the only time I found myself in the principal’s office was after I kicked a boy (where you should NOT kick a boy) after he told me that girls could not play soccer. I wasn’t a soccer player, nor did I want to play the game that badly, but I acted out impulsively because of my strong sense of “Girl Power!”
Later, as an adult in my mid-twenties, I came to realize that my true power comes from Christ who strengthens me (Phillipians 4:13). This Momma Knows…that with God by our side, we girls are strong, capable women who can do so much for our families and the world. My passion is working with and teaching women, and the families who love them, the skills to be the best they were created to be.
When I had my first child in 2003, my world changed with the blessings of parenthood. While pregnant, our pastor and his wife told us about their childbirth experience and it sounded so different than most of the birth stories I had been hearing about. My husband and I were intrigued, we did our homework, and ended up taking a Bradley Method Childbirth class and switching to a midwife for our medical care. We had a wonderful birth and less than two years later, birthed our second child using many of the same techniques to provide comfort and relief.
About six months after the birth of my first child, I trained to become a Bradley Method instructor myself and I’ve been teaching childbirth classes ever since. Since that time, I have longed to incorporate the Christian faith into pregnancy and childbirth preparation. I’m so pleased to have found a group of wonderful instructors around the country that share my passion. I now teach Alpha Christ-Centered Childbirth Classes; a beautiful combination of evidence-based education built on the foundation of faith in our creator as the cornerstone for physical and mental relaxation.
After serving many families and having the privilege of attending some of their births, I have come to understand that every birth is unique and has its own challenges. But, regardless of the difficulties and triumphs, a woman can learn and grow tremendously from the experience.
Likewise, motherhood brings learning opportunities every day! While speaking to groups, I love to share what God is teaching me along the way, help women understand how important the role of mothering is, give tips and tricks to make the journey more enjoyable, and have a good girlfriend laugh!
In addition to my real-life, hands-on education, I have a B.S. in Public Health Administration with a minor in Sociology from Indiana University. I am a certified childbirth instructor with the International Childbirth Education Association (ICEA), as well as being certified as an Alpha Instructor and a Happiest Baby on the Block instructor.
That’s a little about me. But really, it’s all about YOU. Please tell me how I can serve you in your journey to be a mom in the know!
